Caprylic acid inhibits the growth of candida Albicans and other detrimental fungi in the intestine. It is incorporated into the cell membranes of the yeast (fungi) thereby causing rupture and killing the cell.

Pau D'Arco kills/suppress detrimental microbes in the gut due to its napthoquinone content. It is also thought to be useful in the treatment of some types of intestinal parasites, viruses, and even in the treatment of malaria (due to its lapachol content).
